Karen
was awarded for the year 2005, a Traditional Arts Apprenticeship grant titled “Apprenticeship
in Traditional Dog Sled Making”.
This grant was supported in part by a grant from the New Hampshire State
Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts;
she worked under Master Sled Builder Joel Nordholm.
Karen is the owner of Nerak Kennels, a working Siberian Husky Kennel in
Tamworth, NH. and is the granddaughter of Hiram Mason a veteran dog musher
during the 20's and early 30's.
Karen has worked under other Master sled builders such as Ed Moody and
his daughter Roz here in the Granite State. She also inherited all of Ed Moody's
sled building forms and a few extra parts from his daughter Roz Moody.
Karen also enjoys motorcycling, hunting, kayak/canoeing, working with her
Siberian Huskies and spending time with family and friends. Karen had a great time with Joel increasing her knowledge of
traditional dog sled building.
